Privately-owned, my SME client has maintained profitability throughout the downturn and has a strong platform in place to deliver good growth. Supplying a mix of popular and customised products, mainly to the construction industry (large civil engineering projects through to residential building), the company is a market leader in its field. Its main sales channel is via specifiers (primarily structural & civil engineers) and the company has an excellent reputation for quality.
Reporting to the Managing Director, you will form part of a small executive board and be tasked with delivering profitable sales growth in existing & new markets. You will review the current sales resources and strategy and implement improvements designed to maximise the performance of the sales effort. Leading from the front (this is NOT a desk job) you will direct and motivate a UK-wide field sales team of 8 people, to fulfil its potential, and a similarly-sized internal sales team, which could be more proactive than is currently the case.
Ideally from a civil engineering or building background, you will have substantial experience in leading sales teams, successfully selling to specifiers. Your own network of contacts - especially amongst structural and civil engineers - will be extensive and productive. You will be a charismatic leader, with gravitas & maturity, who believes in leading by example and from the front. Commercially aware, you will be very numerate and literate, with good IT-user skills.
