Our client is a highly successful major player in the supply of quality chilled, fresh, ambient and frozen food to the UK catering industry. With revenues in excess of £2.3 billion it is renowned for its truly excellent products, superior customer service and the delivery of exceptional business growth. With an increasing focus on operational effectiveness, costs analysis/control and CSER they wish to strengthen their commercial leadership team with this important strategic appointment.

Reporting to the Commercial Director, your key responsibility will be to lead, manage and inspire a team of buyers and product developers specialising in ensuring commercial and operational performance/costs, efficiencies/savings are maximised across a diverse range of non-food, capital services functions – fleet fuel, electricity, catering equipment, paper, chemicals and light equipment all being classic examples. Whilst managing a significant spend your focus will be to achieve and deliver best value purchasing solutions, creating value improvements and significant savings through the supply chain. Continuous improvement in driving down “food miles”, reducing energy consumption, Corporate Social Environmental Responsibility, compliance and regulatory best practice will also feature on your priority list.

Degree educated, your background will include extensive experience gained in a procurement, operations, supply chain style environment, ideally, but not necessarily, within the food/catering equipment/hospitality arena. Candidates with strong commercial buying, category management and/or operations capability from other relevant sectors - food packaging, retail, logistics, supply chain, distribution, cleaning and hygiene - would also be welcomed. You will be a high integrity individual with exceptional communication, presentation and people management skills - a proactive and influential leader who can make things happen in this fast-paced, collaborative, cross-functional culture. Intellectually strong and with a sharp and astute business mind, your analytical, numerical and commercial acumen will be second to none.
